Here is how you can handle NSFW content on Buy Me a Coffee

Updated over 5 months ago

On Buy Me a Coffee, you can designate your page as Not Safe For Work. NSFW is a warning label indicating that the content or activity is intended only for audiences over the age of 18.

However, not all NSFW content is allowed. The NSFW tag does not permit pornography, sexually explicit nudity, harmful or hateful behaviour, or any other forms of content that are completely prohibited.

Acceptable NSFW Content:

  • Non-sexualised nudity in cultural, educational, and artistic contexts, such as naturism, medical illustrations, professional modelling, and body painting.

  • Suggestive content is acceptable for clothed, suggestive poses emphasizing non-explicit features.

  • Fetishes and Paraphilias like non-explicit and harmless content are allowed, such as cultural or artistic depictions without sexual contexts.

Prohibited NSFW Content:

  • Explicit sexual content like pornography, explicit nudity paired with sexual acts, or adult content marketed as a product.

  • Inappropriate exhibitionism in any form that includes explicit poses or suggestive framing.

  • AI-generated explicit content especially using a known person’s likeness, regardless of the context.

  • Harmful or illegal activities involving harm to individuals, sexualized depictions of minors, or any illegal activities, including explicit drugs and alcohol use.

Additional Content Standards:

  • Moderate fictional violence and medical content are allowed; however, explicit violence or sexual violence is banned.

  • Strong profanity requires an NSFW tag. Hate speech and harmful misinformation are strictly prohibited.

  • Discussions and depictions of legal substance use are allowed. Content promoting or instructing illegal or dangerous substance use is banned.

When should you add the NSFW tag?

If any part of your page on Buy Me a Coffee contains content that some audiences might find offensive or mature, then please tag your page as NSFW. This applies even if the content is restricted to certain membership tiers or is available only to supporters.

How to Tag Your Page as NSFW?

Log in to your Buy Me a Coffee account, navigate to Settings, and scroll down to the 'Mark as NSFW’ field. There, you can add 'NSFW' as a tag.

What Happens When I Apply the NSFW Tag?

When you mark your page as NSFW on Buy Me a Coffee, a notification will alert visitors that they must be 18 or older to view the content, indicating that the creator has published posts marked as Not Safe For Work. Visitors will need to click 'Yes, I'm 18 or older' to access your page.

What Happens If I Don’t Apply the NSFW Tag?

It's crucial to tag your page correctly if it contains mature content. If your page is NSFW and you haven't tagged it as such, we might proactively tag it for you or request that you apply the tag yourself. This is to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content.
